06 Nov KDFL Senior Cup (Semi Final) Suncroft AFC 2 Kildare Town AFC 1
Feature game Leinster Leader
Suncroft booked their place in the 2018 Senior Cup Final when they overcame Kildare Town AFC on the narrowest of margins in an entertaining game at the Community Grounds. They now take on Caragh Celtic next Sunday in what promises to be a very exciting encounter.
The home side took the lead on twenty eight minutes when Darren Kilbey poked home his twenty sixth goal this year and Suncroft’s 100th in all competitions this season.
Kildare Town had some decent chances through a young Brandon O’Keefe and Pento Sage but just couldn’t find a way past Kevin McDonnell in the Croft goal who was in top form.
The home side doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half when Gary Connolly got on the end of brother Dylan’s free kick and he made no mistake unmarked at the back post.
Suncroft looked comfortable for most of the 2nd half but with twelve minutes remaining of the game Kildare clawed back a goal and made the last few minutes of the game a nervous affair for the Lumsden Cup Champions.
With roughly eight minues of normal time left Croft goalkeeper Kevin McDonnell saw red when he was adjudged to have handled the ball outside the area and with the resulting free kick failed to draw Kildare Town level. Suncroft could have extended their lead but Dylan Connolly’s late effort coming off the post. Best for the winner were JP McDonagh,Bryon Reid,Shane Hanley,Gary Connolly,Dylan Connolly,Darren Kilbey and Man Of The Match Kieran Morris. Best for Kildare were Ross Lyons and Ian Murphy.
