LEINSTER HEAT PUMPS SENIOR DIVISION FOCUS

Kildare Town AFC 4-3 Old Fort Celtic FC

Seven-Goal Friday Night Thriller as Kildare Town Edge Past Resilient Old Fort

A sizable crowd at Rathbride Road was treated to an absolute classic on Friday evening as Kildare Town AFC held off a fierce, spirited fightback from Old Fort Celtic FC to secure a breathless 4-3 victory. A blistering first-half avalanche of seven goals gave way to an intense, end-to-end tactical battle in the second period, with both teams trading golden opportunities until the final whistle.

Old Fort Celtic traveled to Kildare and started the match on the front foot, stunning the home supporters by breaking the deadlock just ten minutes in. A perfectly whipped-in corner caused immediate panic in the Kildare box; the ball was knocked on by Bland to Elson, who smartly squared it across the face of goal for Aaron Rafter to knock home from close range, putting the visitors 1-0 up.

Stung by the early concession, Kildare Town burst into life with a devastating attacking response, turning the game completely on its head with four goals in a blistering 20-minute window. The equalizer arrived in the 12th minute when Evan Flynn nodded a header down to Dylan Connolly, who zipped a dangerous ball across the goalmouth for Dean Conroy to belt home.

Five minutes later, Ryan Farrell smashed home a beautifully delivered Josh Burns free-kick to make it 2-1.The momentum remained firmly with the hosts as Dylan Connolly got on the scoresheet himself, firing an edge-of-the-box free-kick that proved too hot to handle for the Old Fort goalkeeper.

Kildare’s fourth arrived on the half-hour mark via a magnificent 60-yard passing sequence started by goalkeeper Ian McDonnell, routed through Burns and Connolly, and finished with a Jack Downes back-post tap-in for a commanding 4-1 lead.Where most teams would have crumbled, Old Fort dug incredibly deep. Within five minutes of the restart, they clawed their way right back into contention. First, Tyler Dempsey struck an unstoppable free-kick into the bottom corner to make it 4-2. Moments later, another dangerous corner fell to Patryk Staniec, who made no mistake with a well-struck effort from the edge of the box to leave the halftime scoreline at an incredible 4-3.

While the second half did not add to the scoreline, it was far from tame as both sides pushed with everything they had. Kildare consistently threatened from open play whenever they got the ball down, while Old Fort piled immense pressure on the hosts through set-pieces and physical aerial overloads.

Goalkeeper heroics at both ends kept the match on a knife-edge. Old Fort threw bodies forward, forcing Ian McDonnell into crucial interventions to deny late equalizing efforts from Elson and Rafter.

At the other end, Old Fort shot-stopper Dean Bland pulled off an array of fantastic saves to keep his team alive. The drama peaked when Kildare split open the visitors' defense to go one-on-one. Dean Bland made a stellar initial save, but the rebound fell back to the Kildare striker, who squared it across the box to his winger. Just as it looked like a certain goal, center-half Danny Bland showed incredible reflexes to race across and clear the ball spectacularly off the line.In the dying moments of the match, Old Fort engineered one final chance from the edge of the box when Lee Carroll found space to strike, but his effort narrowly missed the mark, allowing Kildare to hold on for a thrilling 4-3 victory.

The visitors could take immense pride in their fighting spirit, particularly with strong shifts from Elson, Tyler Dempsey, Patryk Staniec, and Ogie Brown. However, the true headline for Old Fort was Daryl Ntumba, who put in a magnificent, standout performance on his highly anticipated return to the starting eleven. For the victorious Kildare Town squad, it was a hard-earned three points built on an excellent defensive foundation from Ryan Farrell and Josh Burns at the back, paired with the relentless work rate of the tireless Evan Flynn and a truly magical attacking display from Dylan Connolly, who orchestrated the victory with two assists and a goal of his own.

Coill Dubh AFC 4-6 Newbridge United FC

Ten-Goal Friday Night Thriller as Newbridge United Edge Past Brave Coill Dubh

Spectators at Cusack Park were treated to an absolute classic on Friday night as Coill Dubh AFC and Newbridge United FC played out a breathtaking ten-goal thriller. In a match defined by relentless attacking flair, youthful brilliance, and late tactical drama, Newbridge United ultimately escaped with all three points, holding off a fierce second-half comeback from a resilient home side.

The match opened at a ferocious pace, with both sides eager to establish dynamic attacking lines. It was Newbridge United who drew first blood in the 16th minute. A superb, deep cross-field ball from Ben Kinsella picked out Jerry Collins arriving late in the box, and the winger coolly slotted home his first-ever goal in United colors to make it 1-0.However, the hosts responded with the maturity of a seasoned outfit. Just ten minutes later, Coill Dubh’s Craig Lenehan capitalised on a lapse in the visitors' defense to level the score at 1-1.The frantic nature of the tie continued, and Newbridge recaptured the initiative on 32 minutes. Kinsella was the architect once again, delivering another fine assist to the back post where Shaun Walsh was waiting to notch his first goal of the season, sending the visitors into the interval with a narrow 2-1 lead.

Newbridge emerged for the second period looking clinical, extending their lead just four minutes after the restart with a genuine goal-of-the-season contender. Striker Keane Kennedy picked up the ball inside the Coill Dubh half and drove at pace, effortlessly weaving around the home defense before cutting an absolute rocket into the far corner past the keeper's despairing dive.Coill Dubh refused to lie down, and eight minutes later, Ryan Grace calmly converted from the penalty spot to drag the deficit back to 3-2.The game then swung decisively in a chaotic five-minute spell around the hour mark. The home side's youthful backline succumbed to pressure, conceding two penalties in quick succession. Up stepped the clinical Keane Kennedy, who confidently converted both spot-kicks to complete a magnificent hat-trick and cushion the United advantage.

With twenty minutes remaining, Newbridge looked completely out of sight. A brilliant Jerry Collins cross found James Mahoney, who leaped highest to power home a superb header, seemingly putting the game to bed at 6-2.Yet, Trevor McLoughlin’s young Coill Dubh side has built a reputation for spirit, and the night belonged to 17-year-old debutant Noah Mulligan. Becoming the 14th Under-18 player handed a senior appearance by the club this season, the teenager put on a fearless clinic in forward play.Mulligan’s first goal came through sheer determination and composure, finishing like a seasoned veteran.

Minutes later, the stadium erupted as Mulligan struck again, showing immense technique to drive an excellent finish on his weaker left foot into the bottom corner. Suddenly, at 6-4 with five minutes remaining, immense nerves gripped the traveling Newbridge support.United were forced to drop deep and defend valiantly under a barrage of late home pressure, experiencing immense relief when the referee finally blew the full-time whistle on a spectacular contest. For the victorious Newbridge United, it was a night where their attacking unit truly fired. Hat-trick hero and man of the match Keane Kennedy led the line impeccably, heavily supported by the creative brilliance of Shaun Walsh on the left wing, Jamie Headon controlling the midfield, and Ben Kinsella pulling the strings up top.

For Coill Dubh, the performance underscored an incredibly bright future. Craig Lenehan and Conor Comiskey put in immense, tireless shifts against a ruthless Senior Division attack.

However, the headlines for Coill Dubh belonged entirely to teenage sensation Noah Mulligan. Announcing himself to the senior stage with two brilliant goals, his fearless and clinical performance shined in a  narrow defeat.

Clonmullion FC 2-0 Caragh Celtic FC

Caragh Celtic were the latest to face the league leaders in Micheál O Neill Park on a glorious Saturday evening with the usual large crowd in attendance. The visitors were set up defensively very well and were quite content to play on the break using the pace of Jorda Martella and the hold up play of Dean Heavey. Despite dominating possession the home side didn't create much until the half hour mark when Keane Cully slid Chris Chanders in on goals but a last ditch tackle by Doyle Higgins averted the danger.

Five minutes later the elegant Mark Hughes stepped out of defence and laid the ball off to Shane Foley who passed to Chanders who seen his left footed effort go just wide. The home side were really building the pressure and when April's player of the month Chanders was fouled again, Nathan Robinsons beautifully flighted free kick was flicked goalwards by Cully but keeper Keith Higgins saved well. On the stroke of half time Danny Thompson fired a thunderous effort straight at Higgins who could only parry beck into play where Joe Doran struck first time but the keeper again saved well.

The second half started in much the same manner with the home side on the front foot and a Foley long throw was flicked on by Keelan Lacey and Chanders was again on hand to volley goalwards but Higgins denied him yet again. In the 52nd minute home keeper Evan Grattan rolled the ball out to Hughes who hit a great diagonal pass to Doran who rounded the keeper but the angle was too narrow and he the outside of the post and wide. Just before the hour mark Lee Doyle who was causing problems down the right wing with his pace and power slid the ball to Robinson who laid off to Cully whose shot was blocked by Billy Martin.

Clonmullion introduced their talisman Cody Mulhall on the hour and he immediately had the visitors defence on the back foot with his pace and guile as he picked up a pass from Robinson and spotted Thompson racing across the box who's first touch took him around the keeper and he slotted home from an acute angle to break the deadlock. With 15 minutes remaining Hughes again hit one of his trademark diags to pick out Thompson but Higgins was equal to his first time shot. With 5 minutes left Caragh were awarded a free kick on the edge of their own box which was taken by Gavin Hughes who found Mark Dunne who's powerful header was well parried out for a corner by Grattan.

Caragh forced a string of corners which raised the temperature of the home side but they managed to survive the onslaught and Mulhall picked up a clearance from the impressive Jay Connell and headed for the corner flag to run down the clock and won a free kick out wide on the left. Robinson stepped up and whipped in a wicked ball which evaded everyone and found the far corner of the net to make it 2 nil and ease the tension for the home side in additional time. Clonmullions back four continue to impress and look very calm and settled while their midfield is both creative and combative and the pace and movement of their attack will always produce goals.

Caragh Celtic are a well organised unit and physically strong down the spine of the team and their keeper Keith Higgins is a formidable last line of defence. The home side were made to work hard but managed to get their sixth win out of six outings in the league.
