Martin Moloney Div 1-2-3 Shield (Quarter Final)
Kildare Town AFC (D3) 0 4 Kilcullen AFC
Kildare Town AFC (Div 3) were no match for Div 1 side Kilcullen AFC in the Martin Moloney Shield (Quarter Final) on Sunday, as the visitors came away with a resounding victory. On a glorious afternoon for football. Kilcullen showed dominance from the very first minute, playing some nice football linking up well down the flanks. The visitors drew first blood on the twenty first minutes when the speedy Paddy Barrett was brought down in the box by a home defender and the Referee wasted no time in pointing to the penalty spot. Dave Wilson stepped up to slot the ball home to put the visitors 1-0 up. Kilcullen kept the pressure on but couldn't find a second before the halftime break.
The second half started in the same vein with Kilcullen playing some nice football carving open the Kildare backline, but AJ Enright made some good saves. On the fifty fifth minute, that man Barrett again causing havoc in the Kildare defence was brought down again, and once again, Wilson stepped up to slot the penalty home for the visitors. Kilcullen were to the forefront now and really showed some class with the third goal. Some brilliant play down the right saw Barrett released his cross which found O Leary at the back post who set up Curran to make it 3-0.
The Division 1 side weren't finished there and added a fourth when O Leary picked up the ball on the right hand side of the pitch he drove at the Kildare defence skipping past three Kildare players before he smashed the ball low into the bottom right hand corner to make it 4-0. An all round team performance from the Division 1 side. Best for the winners were Adi Lavin, Daragh Curran and Paddy Barrett.
