Clane United AFC 2-0 Newbridge Hotspurs FC

Despite heavy overnight downpours, exceptional work by the committee and volunteers at Caragh Celtic ensured the Karina Donnelly Senior Cup final took place on an immaculate surface. 

Clane United AFC produced a performance brimming with sheer character, tactical maturity, and clinical finishing, overcoming a 23rd-minute red card to defeat Newbridge Hotspurs FC 2-0 and bring the prestigious silverware back to Clane.

The showpiece final ignited at a ferocious tempo, with both teams exchanging neat, crisp passing combinations in the opening ten minutes as they looked to settle their big-game nerves. Clane struck the first blow in the 12th minute. Ryan Murran unlocked the Hotspurs rearguard with a pinpoint delivery into the penalty area, allowing 19-year-old sensation Gavin Denton to apply a cool, predatory finish—notching his remarkable 29th goal of an astonishing debut senior campaign to make it 1-0.

The complexion of the contest changed drastically in the 23rd minute when Clane were reduced to ten men following two quickfire yellow cards.  Rather than retreating into a defensive shell, Clane demonstrated remarkable resilience. They refused to play like a disadvantaged outfit, continuing to zip the ball about the turf with composure.

In the engine room, Ryan Murran and Nathan Carr turned in heroic, tireless shifts to break up play and match Hotspurs’ midfield duo of Tomas Hennessy and Eoin Walsh stride for stride. Clane’s bravery was rewarded with a decisive second goal in the 35th minute. James Ralph embarked on a purposeful, direct run directly at the retreating Hotspurs backline before cutting a lovely pass across the edge of the box.  Andrew Hyland took a clean touch to set himself and effortlessly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to double the advantage to 2-0.

Hotspurs pressed to cut the deficit before the interval, but Clane’s centre-back pairing of Jack Kelly and Thomas Hyland stood firm, expertly heading clear dangerous crosses from Chris Higgins and Scott O’Donoghue to protect the two-goal cushion at the break.

The second half delivered more high-calibre passing football as Newbridge Hotspurs pushed aggressively to exploit their numerical advantage.  Eoin McGrath and Michael Murphy both saw promising efforts flash wide and over, while Clane custodian Adam Mazur produced a succession of vital saves to deny Murphy and Scott O'Donoghue.

Hotspurs came agonizingly close to finding a lifeline when O’Donoghue unleashed a thunderous 25-yard drive that cannoned off the post, only for McGrath to send the rebound over the crossbar under heavy pressure.  Down the other end, Denton remained a relentless outlet on the counter-attack, supported by the tireless running of Ralph and Andrew Hyland, though Robbie and Chris Higgins marshalled the Hotspurs defence solidly after the break.

As Hotspurs threw caution to the wind in search of a late lifeline, gaps opened up on the break, and their uphill battle became insurmountable in the 85th minute when they were reduced to ten men themselves following a dismissal.  Clane managed the remaining minutes with supreme authority to hear the final whistle and trigger jubilant celebrations.

Newbridge Hotspurs put in a valiant, determined shift in the final, led by tireless displays from Eoin Walsh and Tommy Walsh, solid defending from Robbie Higgins, and dynamic attacking threat from Scott O’Donoghue. For the champions, it was a display defined by heart and collective discipline:

Jack Kelly – An absolute rock in the air and on the ground, cutting out danger when Clane were under intense pressure. Ryan Murran & Nathan Carr – Instrumental in midfield, covering huge mileage to completely negate Hotspurs' temporary one-man advantage. Gavin Denton – A constant livewire who capped an incredible debut senior campaign with his 29th goal of the season. Adam Mazur & James Ralph – Crucial at both ends, with Mazur pulling off decisive saves between the posts and Ralph providing the creative spark for the match-winning second goal.

BBC United FC 0 Coill Dubh AFC 4

Coill Dubh AFC travelled the short distance to Moyvalley and despite the limited numbers, Coill Dubh made an explosive start and took the lead early on. Ryan Lenehan was brought down inside the area by the BBC goalkeeper, and Cillian Casey made no mistake from the resulting penalty to put Coill Dubh 1–0 ahead.

The visitors continued to threaten, with Will Carroll seeing a superb 25-yard free-kick come crashing back off the post with the BBC goalkeeper beaten It wasn't long before Coill Dubh doubled their advantage. Casey struck again after a brilliant cross from Trey Govender, completing his brace and putting the visitors firmly in control after 19 minutes.

On the half-hour mark, Ryan Lenehan was rewarded for an outstanding display of hard work. Lennon O'Shaughnessy produced a defence-splitting pass to release Lenehan, who kept his composure to slot the ball home and make it 3–0. Lenehan almost added another shortly afterwards, only to be denied by an unbelievable save from Bhutani in the BBC goal.

The moment of the match came courtesy of Will Carroll. Undeterred by his earlier free-kick hitting the post, Carroll stepped up from around 35 yards and this time found the back of the net with a thunderous strike to make it 4–0.to leave the Dubh leading 4-0 going into the break.

Coill Dubh adopted a more defensive approach in the second half. Noah Mulligan was also carrying an injury, which forced Coill Dubh to sit deeper and allowed BBC to create a number of chances. However, the Coill Dubh defence remained resolute throughout. Delan Munyengeterwa, John McLoughlin, Trey Govender and Tom Greene worked tirelessly in front of goalkeeper Ryan Bagnall, who was also excellent when called upon.

Despite the pressure from BBC in the second half, Coill Dubh held firm and secured an impressive clean sheet to go with their four goals. Standout Performances for the winners were Cillian Casey was excellent, with two goals to his name, while Man of the Match Ryan Lenehan was outstanding from start to finish, capping his performance with a goal. For BBC United, Hurst, Farrell and O'Donoghue were among the standout performers for BBC United.
