Leinster Football Association Junior Cup (Round 2)

Clonmullion made the long trip to Coill Dubh on Friday night for this second round Leinster Junior Cup tie. The first half proved to be a tight affair under the lights in an immaculate Cusack Park and it took a penalty just on the stroke of half time to break the deadlock. Danny Thompson put Keelan Lacey through on goal and he was taken down just inside the box. Chris Chanders stepped up and although Doherty guessed the right way there was enough power on it to beat the keeper.

The second half began with the visitors on top and Mikie Behan was adjudged to have handled a Ceilum Maher shot inside the box and Chanders again placed the ball on the penalty spot and this time rifled the ball high into the back of the net. It was 3 on the hour mark when Nathan Robinson picked out Thompson with a cross field pass and he in turn chipped the ball to the back post where Maher headed home. 5 minutes later Lacey made it 4 nil with a tap in at the back post after brilliant approach play by Cody Mulhall. The prolific Joe Doran added 2 more to his personal tally and the 5th and 6th of the night with assists from Lacey and Tom Nolan respectively. A good performance in the second half by The Mull with Robinson and Chanders dominant in midfield. Laceys and Thompsons pace with Lee Doyle and Jay Connell overlapping on the flanks created havoc in the home defence and the introduction of the young duo of Bryan Byrne and Nolan maintained the threat right up until the final whistle.
