KDFL Under 20 Division
Naas United FC 0 Clane United FC 2
The home side started well against visitors Clane on Saturday last in the KDFL Under 20
Division, both teams battling it out for these mid table league points, in the first few minutes, A
throw in from the left, flicked on by Clane ‘s Ross Murphy and hit by Cian McMahon and it
just goes over the Naas Crossbar. The home side kept up the momentum and soon after a
free kick flicked on by Adam Greenhalgh who showed some lovely skill to beat his man and
down the wing by Conor Rapple who whipped the ball and was just over the Clane cross bar
from Joe Mills header.
However eight minutes later a kick out from the home keeper was lost in midfield by Naas,
the high press by Clane to win the ball and a first time super finish by McMahon put Clane 1-0
up. A quick throw in from Naas, and Conor Rapple with another looping cross almost went
into the Clane net, a chance missed to equalise. Another quick throw in, this time from Clane
leads to a strike first time from Dean Comiskey and his shot whizzed over crossbar. Great
battling in the centre mid from Naas with Joe Murray resulted in him winning the ball and he
played a lovely ball over the top for Sean Wheeler, his shot was expertly parried by the Clane
keeper and the follow up from Joe mills was narrowly wide.
Half way through the first half and both teams battling hard. Another great ball through the
middle from now Joe Mills, forces a great save from Clane stand in keeper Kevin Reilly to
stop Sean Wheelers shot going in for the second time. Soon after another fantastic ball over
the top from Naas and a first time effort from Adam Greenhalgh and Reilly pushes it out for a
corner. HT 1-0.
Both teams were playing some great ball a five minutes into the second half Naas were piling
on the pressure, and getting a couple of free kicks as a result and from the free kick the shot
went agonisingly wide. On the break Clane won a free kick which was flicked on by their
player and shot from Aimon Amjel straight in the hands of Ben Loughlin. A big decision a few
minutes later, seen Clane win a penalty. After discussion, Oliver McNamee for Clane steps up
and hits it into the bottom left corner, Ben Loughlin gets a hand to it but not enough to keep it
out to double the visitors advantage. After the second goal, Clane piled on the pressure and
some great play in middle from Clane, leading to a quick snap shot from Comiskey but the
shot is well dealt with from the Naas keeper Ben Loughlin.
As the game went on Naas were putting the pressure on Clane now and winning a few more
free kicks and from the resulting free kicks Naas shots continue to go narrowly wide. In the
final ten mins Naas won a corner ball and Dylan Malones left footed effort goes wide of the
goal. As time was coming to the end, Clane and Naas battled it out and it was end to end
plays. Unfortunately Naas could not test the Clane keeper and the game petered out. Best
for Naas on the day were, Conor Rapple, Stev Tilley and Joe Murray. while best for the
winners were Dean Comiskey (man of the match), Cian McMahon and Oliver McNamee.
