KDFL Lumsden League Cup (Round 1)
BBC United FC 7 1 Longwood FC
Over 35 Division 2 Club Longwood made the short journey over to Moyvalley on Sunday last to take on KDFL Newbies BBC United from Division 2 in the first round of the KDFL Lumsden League Cup. Longwood arrived, ready to go with an experience team but BBC started off the better and went 1-0 up early on through Dean Tyrrell from outside the box with a volley giving the visiting keeper no change . BBC United kicked on to capitalise on their early advantage, and then after some great play, Ru butler went on a run and finished nicely into the top corner to make it 2-0.
Longwood were not deterred and kept playing some nice football however despite the best efforts of John O Gorman and Timmy Kavanagh they found the BBC rearguard in a mean mood and try as they may they could not find the back of Josh of Donoghue’s net. BBC kept the ball very well and their third came by way of a penalty, up stepped Dean Tyrell and made no mistake with a neat finish to score his second and his side’s third. It wasn’t long before the impressive Dylan scored his third to complete a notable hat trick to make it 4-0 to the home side. Dylan Brannigan was hounding the defence with his runs but longwood used their experience to snuff out the danger. As half-time approached so did BBC’s fifth through Sean Walsh after some tasty one twos with Joe Cummins, to leave the home side comfortably 5-0 up at half time.
After half time BBC switched things around and they introduced James Forder, Cian Herbert, Ian Coogan, Dylan O Brien and Fionn Butler for some fresh legs. Longwood came out with the last bit of wind, and this would pay off as Ciaran Barker ran the pitch like a twenty year old and finished to give longwood we'll deserved goal to make it 5-1. However BBC finished strong and they added a sixth through Joe Cummins and they added a seventh through substitute Cian Herbert. All round performance from BBC with the best performances for Longwood from Lenny Palmer and Timmy Kavanagh.

Bush Celtic FC 1 3 Clane United FC
Bush Celtic took on Clane United’s second string and were feeling upbeat after running current Lumsden cup holders Naas United close last week in the opening round of the cup. Bush started the game slow and were sloppy in possession giving Clane United some half chances. Harry Dolan who was Bush Celtic’s main threat broke down the right wing beating two men leaving himself one on one with the visiting keeper but unfortunately hit his effort just wide of the left post. In the twenty fifth minute a mix up between the bush defence and midfield lead to the Clane striker Ross Murphy getting a half chance which he finished well into the bottom corner leaving the inform Nolan no chance in the bush goal.
Bush continued to try find their passing game but a few miss placed passes kept the pressure on the home side. Twelve minutes later a ball in from Clane’s right hand side, caused a mix up between Bush defenders Lawless and Nolan with the ball coming off Lawless and landed in the Bush net putting the visitors 2-0 up. The home side continued to try get on top but were unfortunate to see a few half chances going to waste.
The second half Bush knew they needed to up their effort and game and started the second half the brighter really trying to get back into it but found themselves wanting in front of goal. With twenty five minutes to go Clane grabbed their third goal against the run of play when Ross Murphy was quickest to react in a goal mouth scramble leaving Celtic with a mountain to climb so they emptied the bench in pursuit of a life line and they got that with ten minutes left through Liam knight when Tommy Moolick caused havoc from a Dolan corner to reduce the deficit. Bush tried again and again to get another, but it just wasn’t to be Best for Bush were Sean Knight Eamon Tyrell Harry Dolan while the winners were best served by two goal hero Ross Murphy.
