A cracking day for football in Monasterevin as Kilcullen made the short trip to Tougher Rd. A cagey affair at the start with no real chances from either side.

The game sprung into life on fourteen minutes  when some nice football from Kilcullen saw the ball arrive at Dave Wilsons feet he flicked it to Luke Mc Williams who played a through ball into Ryan Dunne who smashed the ball across the keeper into the far corner to put the visitors 1-0 up.  Monasterevin pushed at the other end but James King and Gavin Tighe stood tall and kept them at bay, leaving the visitors going in 1-0 up at the break. On the hour mark Sean Furlong picked the ball up on the edge of the box drove at the Monasterevin defence and was taken down just inside the box, Dave Wilson stepped up and slotted home the penalty to double Kilcullen’s advantage. 

With the warm weather both sides made changes to keep the momentum in the game and that lad Dan Collins made his comeback to the senior fold after a league and cup winning season with the Kilcullen 20s. It took Collins just five minutes to make an impact, a shot by Ryan Dunne was spilled by Moynihan in goal and Collins tapped it home for his first soon after a breaking ball in the middle of the park saw Ben Haslam win the ball and slip it off to Dan Collins who burst through the Monasterevin defence with just the keeper to beat he smashed the ball low into the bottom left corner.

A cool calm and composed performance from Kilcullen who dominated from start to finish. 4 goals and another clean sheet for young Oisin Jacobs in goal that’s 3 in a row for the 16yr old. The whole squad were standouts today but a big shout out to James King who was immense at the back, Luke Mc in the middle and Dave Wilson up front linking up the play and Ryan Dunne as always energetic and a torn in the side for any opposition. Special mention to young James Mallon making his Senior debut at 16yrs old. The future is bright, as always a huge shout out to all the underage coaches for producing these talented players Best for Monasterevin were Corey Lyons Geoghegan in midfield and Graham Larke at right back
