Leinster Football Association Womens Junior Cup (Quarter Finals)

Finglas United FC 4 Sallins Celtic FC 1

KDFL Womens Double winning champions of 2022 Sallins Celtic FC exited the Leinster Football

Association Womens Junior Cup at the Quarter final stages on Sunday when they went down 4-1 to a

well drilling EWFL side Finglas United FC away from home.

The eventual winners started brightly and converted two early chances to see them take a 2-0 lead

after ten minutes before Sallins got a chance to settle. The visitors regrouped and began to play

some neat football and put the minimum between the sides on twenty two minutes when after a

period of prolonged pressure Sarah McGovern finished neatly past the home keeper to make it 2-1.

Ten minutes later however Finglas regained their two goal advantage when they took advantage of

some hesitancy in the Sallins defence to make it 3-1. The score remained the same to the break with

Sallins finishing the half strongly.

Sallins turned into the second half more organised and left few chances for Finglas as they defended

stoutly. Brooke Dunne and Lucy Plummer were steadfast in midfield for the visitors putting in a great

shift. The home side got fourth in the latter stages of the game. The scoreline did not reflect the

great effort from the Kildare side who can be proud of their achievement in reaching the latter

stages of this very competitive Provincial Cup after a long arduous season which began last April.

Best for the Kildare side were Dunne and Plummer in midfield and goal scorer Sarah McGovern.
