Noel Recruitment Premier Division

Caragh Cetlic FC 2 Clane United FC 2

A share of the spoils was a fair result in this Premier League local derby encounter between newly promoted Division 1 league champs 2021 Clane United and Caragh Celtic.

It was a cagey first twenty minutes between these evenly matched sides. Clane took the lead on twenty five minutes when Stephen Griffin controlled a through ball in the middle of the park and with his back to goal released midfielder Stephen Brereton down the wing, he expertly controlled the ball across his marker and slotted home from twelve yards to give the visitors the lead.

This set back stung the home side into action and Darren Heavey and Tony Farrell started to control the game in the middle of midfield. Good link up play from Dean Heavy, Stephen Riordan, Tony Farrell and Darren Heavey lead to Billy Martin been slid in by Darren and he was taken out by the Clane defender. Penalty given and expertly finished by Eohhan Merriman on thirty minutes to level matters. 1-1 after half an hour.

Caragh controlled the game almost to the break however more sloppy defending allowed Clane back in to go 2-1 up with a deflected cross from Clane’s Stephen Griffin going passed Cassidy in the home goal just before half time to put Clane going into the break 2- 1 to the good.

Caragh came out of for the second half and totally dominated it from start to finish and Dean Heavey equalised on the hour mark. Caragh pushed and pushed for the last half hour but couldn’t get the goal their efforts deserved partly through their own sloppiness, Clane were also reduced to nine men late in the game following some heavy challenges. Plenty of positives to take from the game for the home side who were unlucky not to sneak victory. Best for Caragh were Stephen Riordan, Darren Heavy, Dean Heavy, Billy Martin and Eoghan Merriman. Best for the visitors were Stephen Griffin and Stephen Brereton.
