Feature game – Leinster Leader

Hoey Spar Moorefield Division 1

Naas AFC 3 Coill Dubh AFC 1

Naas AFC moved into joint second place in the Hoey Spar Moorefield Division 1 tables on Sunday following their 3-1 victory at home against Coill Dubh AFC. They built on last week’s hard fought victory over Arlington FC with more ease this week.

The game was closer than the results suggests with Coill Dubh taking the game to Naas in the early stages through changes from Sean Hannon, Sean McMahon and Josh McKeon. The most notable opportunity from the visitors came after five minutes through Sean Mac Mahon after a great pull back to the edge of the box by Sean Hannon. Kian Butler and Sean Hannon dominated the wings being picked out by Nathan Moran and Ross Donnellan with some exceptional passes

Indeed it was the visitors who opened the scoring when Mazzam (Mo) finished a ball from Kian Butler to put COill Dubh AFC 1-0 up.

Naas got back into the game when Jason Maher was fouled and from the resulting free kick put in by Ross O Callaghan found Conor Maddock at the back post to head home the equaliser for the home side

Naas started to push on winning most of the ball and with five minutes before the break player of the match Ross O Callaghan picked the ball up on the left cut inside of going past two Coill Dubh players to see his strike on goal go well past the visiting keeper to put Naas afc 2-1 going into the break.

The home side continued to press and were unlucky not to go 3-1 up when T-K Nengiwa burst through the Coill Dubh defence only for his shot on goal to go narrowly wide of the post, Naas did get the 3rd goal when Lukasz Sarnot played the ball wide to O Callaghan who was involved in everything good about Naas today played in Gavin Kelly who was taken down by the Coill Dubh full back for a penalty.

Ross O Callaghan got his seocnd of the day from the spot to give Naas a 3-1 midway through the second half, and were unlucky not to go 4-1 ahead with a clever free kick by Lukasz Sarnot who dinked the ball over the the Coill dubh wall for Gavin Kelly to run onto only to see his effort just go over the crossbar from outside the 6yard area.

Best for Naas today were captain Ross O Callaghan, Tristan Iveagh at left back, Lee Freeman at centre back, Jason Maher and Gavin Kelly.
