Leinster Power Flushing Premier Division
St Anthonys Youths 1 2 Suncroft AFC
Suncroft on the back of four straight league defeats and two draws finally got the show on the road with a great performance against St.Anthonys Youths FC on Sauturday evening in Kilcullen. A great game as always promised in the local derby. Suncroft drawing the last game from a late set piece from Anthony's. The Croft were hungry for revenge .
The visitors started the brighter of the two teams having the ball in the back of the net twice in the first twenty five minutes with strikes from Gaz Dillon and Josh Lee, both unfortunately ruled offside by fine margins. Suncroft playing the best football of the season and a high press from Zack Pitt forced a corner, A great ball in from Josh Lee found the head of Adam Stack and Stack rocked the crossbar with a header but quickest to react to the ball was Craig Durney heading in the rebound to put the visitors 1-0 up. Antos woke up and came much more into the game with Bryon Reid and Ross O Brien coming more into the game and Suncroft went in defending their slender 1-0 advantage at the break.
The Croft although full of confidence with their advantage allowed Anthos to gain the upper hand. But soon after the hour mark , Josh Lee put Suncroft 2-0 up with a fine strike from the edge of the box . The two goal lead was short-lived however when a Tom Healy deflected strike from the edge of the box found the back of the net to put the minimum between the two local sides. St Anthonys grew in confidence following the Healy goal and peppered the Suncroft area in search of an equaliser and it was backs to the wall for the leaders for the last twenty five minutes 2-1 backs to the wall for Suncroft in the final 25 minutes however the Croft back line of Cathal Mahon , Adam Stack, Dylan Guilfoyle and Correy O Sullivan stood firm against any Antos attack and their midfield trio of Ben McInerney, Eoin Magee and Craig Durney were brilliant on the day. Josh Lee , Garreth Dillon and Zack Pitt were a constant thorn in the side of St.Anthonys. Suncroft finally holding out for a well earned three points, their first win of the season . A fine all round performance and a cracking game of football for the neutral. Best for Suncroft were Adam Stack. Ben McInerney, Craig Durney, Josh Lee and man of the match Cathal Mahon . Best for St.Anthonys were Bryon reid, Shane Quirke , Micheal Ugochukwu and Ross o Brien and Jack Broe.
