Ace Sports Awards Masters Division 2
Clane United FC 3 0 Straffan AFC
Clane United moved into joint second place in the Ace Sports Awards Masters Division 2 yesterday following this 3-0 victory over near neighbours Straffan AFC at doctors road. Straffan made the short trip to doctors road, Clane for this League game. Clane were dangerous from the start with a shot from Stephen Connolly narrowly missing the target and a free kick from Daragh Deane well saved by Straffan Keeper Mahon McNamara.
The visitors were playing some good football with Gordon McCrea and James Devane in the middle of midfield dictating the play.
Disaster struct for Straffan however when Clane produced two top drawer goals within five minutes on the tenth and fifteenth minute. The first a tidy finish from Stephen Connolly at the back post giving McNamara no chance. This was followed by Senior Manager Daragh Deane when his well struct shot went in off the post after some great approach work from Neil Cox and Steven Connolly.
The home side were calling the shots now with the comfort of a two goal lead but could not capitalise on superiority. Clane went in 2-0 to the good at the break.
Straffan started the second half strongly and were unlucky to not score when their free kick struck the crossbar. Clane got a foothold on the game again, and Stephen Connolly added his second of the game with another fine finish from a Daragh Deane cross. After the third goal Clane took control and should have added to the scoreline but for some fine saves from visiting keeper Mahon McNamara. Stand outs peformances for Clane were man of the match Stephen Connolly , Alan Brennan and Daragh Deane while for the visitors Gordon McCrea and James Devane in midfield were their best, followed by McNamara in goal who had an outstanding game.
