Hill Mechanical & Electrical Division 2

Straffan AFC 2 BBC United FC 0

BBC came to Straffan on Sunday in a game that both teams knew the result would be hard fought for. Straffan threw everything at BBC in the first fifteen minutes in the hope of securing an early goal and were rewarded soon after when Ronan Keating’s corner was met by an overhead kick from Sam Friel to put the visitors 1-0 up. Staffan then settled into the game and began to move the ball around nicely, some great link up play from Ronan Keating and Adam Tinkler created a few chances for Straffan but they were unable to double their lead. As the game progressed, BBC found their way into it and began to create a few chances of their own, only to be stopped by great defending from Shane McEvoy and great goalkeeping from Matthew Duggan, the pair have now achieved ten clean sheets this season in nineteen games. The game was 1-0 at half time and still very much in the balance. Straffan started the second half at electric pace and created a couple of early chances. The visiotrs doubled their lead, again from a corner when Ronan Keating’s cross was met by a fantastic Shane McEvoy header a minute into the second half. Straffan now with a two goal lead, began to move the ball well and push for a third goal, only to be stopped by some good saves from the BBC keeper. BBC were determined to pull a goal back and pushed hard creating some chances of their own. This forced Straffan into a couple of defensive changes to try and see the game out. BBC were unable to break down the Straffan defence and the game finished 2-0 to the visitors. Straffan now look to welcome Kildare Town next Sunday in a game that could see Straffan crowned Division 2 champions. Straffan’s Man of the match - Sean Cummins (Centre mid). Best for the winners were  Ronan Keating (Centre mid) (2 assists), Shane McEvoy (Centre back) (1 goal) (Clean sheet), Glenn Holland (Centre mid)
