Leinster Power Flushing Premier Division

Mavida FC 2 Corbans Celtic FC 1

Mavida FC fresh off after week rest with a light squad, started brightly at home, immediately putting Corban’s Celtic under pressure. The early dominance nearly paid off when Daniel Phillips played a clever through ball to Aviwe Tshula down the left, who then set up Benedict Fordjou, only for his shot to whistle just past the post.

However, against the run of play, Corbans struck first. A long goal kick caused confusion in Mavida’s defense, and Mahdi Zougar capitalised following good work by Daragh Leavy, slotting past Cullen Lambert to make it 0-1.

Unshaken by this Mavida continued to probe, with Kevin Ogedegbe and Fordjour tormenting Corbans’ backline with relentless runs. Their persistence was rewarded when Fordjour was brought down in the box, earning a penalty. Daniel Phillips stepped up and coolly converted to level the score at 1-1.

Mavida’s midfield diamond Marvin Mbala, Imran Shitta, Daniel Phillips, and Eoin McGrath—dominated possession, forcing Corban’s into hopeful long balls. Just before halftime, Mavida took the lead in stunning fashion. Goalkeeper Cullen Lambert launched a pinpoint long ball to Benedict Fordjour, who rounded the keeper and finished calmly to make it 2-1.

The second half saw Mavida continue their relentless pressing. Michael Sangolana and Aviwe Tshula were tireless on the flanks, creating chances while stifling Corbans’ attacks. Mavida thought they had a third when Fordjour whipped in a dangerous cross, but Imran Shitta couldn’t direct his close-range effort on target.

Corbans showed glimpses of threat, but Evan Phillips and Ebey Phillips stood firm in defence. Mavida came agonisingly close again when Naason Mazapi found Daniel Phillips, who danced past two defenders before chipping the keeper, only to see his effort sail just over.

Kevin Ogedegbe and Daniel Samuel also had opportunities, but the Corbans keeper stood tall, denying Mavida a third. Despite the missed chances, Mavida saw out the game professionally to secure a crucial 2-1 victory. Key Performers for the winners were Benedict Fordjour (POTM) – a goal, an assist, and constant menace, Cullen Lambert – Commanding in goal and a sublime assist, Imran Shitta & Marvin Mbala – Midfield control and relentless pressing and Michael Sangolana & Aviwe Tshula – Electric on the wings. While best for the visitors were Michael Aboderin, Dylan Coady, Sam Belghazi and Mahdi Zougar.
