Senior / Premier Shield Action!
Clonmullion FC 9 Newbridge United FC 2
Clonmullion were comfortable winners in this Senior/Premier Division Shield semi final away to Newbridge United in Corrigan Park this afternoon. Garry Comerford opened the scoring with a well placed free kick after five minutes. Chris Chanders headed home a Keane Cully cross to make it 2 three minutes later. Ceilum Maher had his side three up after great approach play by Comerford and Chanders. Nathan Robinson picked out Chanders in the twentieth minute with a beautifully clipped pass over the defence in the 23rd minute and he bravely headed into the path of Maher to make it 4. United pulled one back on half hour mark but the visitors went straight back up the field from the kick off when Mark Hughes picked out Maher with a fantastic ball and he stayed on his feet despite being fouled to crash the ball to the net to complete his hat trick.
United made it 5 2 early in the second half when a speculative shot was deflected off a Newbridge player wrong footing Michael Lawless. However five minutes later a Robinson corner was headed home by Chanders. Lee Doyle beat his marker and crossed to Chanders who unselfishly headed back into the danger area where Robinson volleyed home to make it 7 2. With fifteen minutes remaining Jody Dillon tapped home from close range after a Doyle shot was only parried by the keeper. Chanders capped of a man of the match display by completing his hat trick from the penalty spot after being brought down himself when through on goal.
