A very slow and cagey first half which saw United dominate possession but never really getting close enough to open the scoring, while Anto’s were content to sit back and soak up the pressure. The game opened up in the second half as Utd came out with a higher intensity and took just four minutes to open the scoring. Good combination play between James Mahoney and Ryan Kearney saw the latter give the Newbridge lads the lead. It was a further 30 minutes of pressure before they doubled their lead when Kearney again was the beneficiary of an awkward bounce in the Anto’s penalty box.

A nervy finish seemed on the cards with 5 mins remaining when Anto’s were awarded a penalty, fortunately for Newbridge Ross Dowling smashed the ball against the crossbar. United held their nerve and saw out the final few minutes and celebrated their first ever appearance in a Lumsden Cup Final. for United today: Ryan Kearney (CM), Shaun Walsh (LB) and Jerry Collins (LW).
