Coill Dubh AFC 4-0 Corbans Celtic FC



Senior side Coill Dubh AFC secured their passage into the second round of the Lumsden League Cup with an emphatic 4-0 victory over a depleted Corbans Celtic FC side at a rain-slicked Cusack Park. 

While the final scoreline suggests a completely one-sided affair, it mask a contest where the visitors created a succession of golden opportunities, only to be denied by a combination of the woodwork and clinical opposition counter-attacking.Despite a wet Friday evening and traveling short on numbers, Coill Dubh exploded out of the starting blocks, completely dominating the opening exchanges. The tactical breakthrough arrived courtesy of a piece of magic from Craig Lenehan. 

Operating with immense vision in the final third, Lenehan executed a perfectly weighted, incisive through-ball to find Jason Devine, who kept his cool to slot a clinical finish into the back of the net.

Lenehan was completely at the heart of everything positive for the hosts and single-handedly engineered a second goal just minutes later. 


Showcasing brilliant feet, he dribbled past Corbans left-back Alan Coady before delivering a sensational, pinpoint cross to the back post. Jake Smullen timed his run to perfection, meeting the delivery with aplomb to double the cushion to 2-0 with just ten minutes on the clock.To their immense credit, Corbans Celtic refused to fold despite the early double-salvo. The visitors standardly started playing some highly encouraging football, creating multiple promising sequences. Tommy Fennessy came agonizingly close to pulling a goal back with a fine effort that rattled the woodwork, while Adam O'Sullivan, Aidy Thomas, and Chris Cooke all threatened on occasion.Corbans showed they were still very much alive in the cup tie when Ethan Harney unleashed a fierce, venomous strike from 25 yards out, forcing Coill Dubh custodian Alan Sheridan into a spectacular, full-stretch save to preserve the 2-0 lead heading into the interval.Any hopes of a dramatic Corbans Celtic comeback were firmly extinguished at the start of the second period. Continuing his masterclass, Craig Lenehan was on the receiving end of a magnificent, swinging cross from Cillian Casey. Arriving late into the penalty box, Craig Lenehan made no mistake from 12 yards out, smashing a powerful strike past the keeper to make it 3-0.With several key players missing from their matchday squad, the physical toll of chasing the game began to severely affect the visitors. Corbans continued to fight bravely and unluckily struck the woodwork for a frustrating second time during the match, but they ultimate lacked the necessary conviction in front of goal to break their duck.Coill Dubh completed the scoring with the goal of the evening. First-half scorer Jake Smullen turned provider, sliding a precise pass into Cillian Casey on the edge of the box. Casey showcased elite footwork to completely beat two defenders in a phone booth before calmly slotting a low effort home to wrap up a polished 4-0 victory.


Corbans Celtic can take plenty of heart from an energetic performance where they worked tirelessly until the final whistle. Tommy FennessyChris Cooke, and Aidy Thomas covered every blade of grass in the engine room, while Captain Alan Coady led by example with a highly impressive, strong all-round performance despite the heavy scoreline.For the victorious Coill Dubh, Jake Smullen and Cillian Casey provided the cutting edge that illuminated their attacking sequences.

Lenehan dictated the entire landscape of the match—providing a brilliant assist for the opener, engineering the second with a superb run and cross, and scoring the decisive third goal himself. 

But for his incredible technical execution under wet conditions and total dominance of the final third, Cian MacMahon was the choice for Man of the Match.



Leixlip United FC (O35s) 2-3 Clane United AFC


A dramatic 94th-minute winner from Nathan Carr saw Clane United AFC advance to the second round of the Lumsden League Cup after emerging victorious from a gruelling, high-octane 3-2 thriller against a highly experienced Leixlip United Over-35s side. In an absorbing cup tie defined by rapid-fire goals, contrasting physical styles, and phenomenal goalkeeping, Clane snatched victory with virtually the final kick of regulation time.Going away to a seasoned, battle-hardened Leixlip team in the Lumsden Cup was always going to be a tricky assignment for Clane’s developmental side. 


While the younger visitors sought to move the ball with rapid-fire fluid transitions, Leixlip relied heavily on their immense tactical experience, throwing everything into their individual challenges to disrupt Clane's rhythm and compress the space inside their own defensive third.Clane started brightly, moving the ball quickly and carving out a succession of early opportunities that they ultimately failed to convert. However, their persistence reaped rewards in the 13th minute following a brilliantly executed set-piece. 


Andrew Hyland turned architect, delivering a pinpoint, clinical corner into the danger zone where Mark Kelly timed his run perfectly to guide a superb finish into the top corner for a 1-0 lead.

Rather than opening the game up, the breakthrough prompted Leixlip to dig deep. The remainder of the first half descended into a highly stop-and-start affair, as the veteran hosts used every bit of their experience to break up play, halt Clane's momentum, and present a formidable defensive brick wall that left the visitors with a narrow one-goal cushion at the interval.

Following some lovely, intricate team play through the midfield channels, Gavin Denton showcased superb vision to slide an incisive cross into the danger zone, where Nathan Carr clinical directed his finish into the back of the net to seal a breathtaking 3-2 victory. While it may not have been an aesthetic classic, this young Clane team will have learned an immense amount from a thoroughly demanding battle.


For the victorious visitors, the match-winning contributions came from their attacking trio, with Jack KellyMark Kelly, and super-sub Nathan Carr turning in excellent, highly influential displays when the cup tie hung in the balance.However, the ultimate individual honors of the afternoon belonged to the hosts' defiant shot-stopper. Tadhg Murphy put on an absolute masterclass in goal for Leixlip United. Facing a relentless, high-powered Clane attack that peppered his goal across the ninety minutes, Murphy stood entirely resolute. He pulled off a string of spectacular, world-class saves to deny certain goals, commanded his penalty area with total authority, and single-handedly kept his side within touching distance of a major upset. For his extraordinary composure and match-defining performance under heavy fire, Murphy was the unanimous choice for the Man of the Match.







Old Fort Celtic FC 0-3 Kildare Town AFC



Kildare Town AFC advanced into the second round of the prestigious Lumsden Cup after a clinical second-half performance secured a 3-0 victory over Old Fort Celtic FC in Portlaoise. For the third time this season, Kildare emerged victorious against their familiar foes—though the final scoreline was incredibly harsh on a brilliant Old Fort side that had entirely dominated the opening 45 minutes.



Old Fort Celtic exploded out of the starting blocks, comfortably dictating the tempo and restricting Kildare Town in a heavily one-sided first half. Operating with great attacking fluidity, the hosts carved out an opening major chance when front-man Elson Simao broke through, only to be denied by a fantastic save from Kildare shot-stopper Ian McDonnell.Old Fort continued to look incredibly dangerous, launching waves of attack through Ashby, Aaron Rafter, and Simao. However, disaster struck the home side midway through the half when vice-captain Lee Talbot suffered an early injury and was forced to come off.


Despite the disruption, Old Fort stayed on the front foot. Eoin Carroll anchored the defensive line with immense composure, flawlessly cleaning up loose balls and dominating his individual duels to deny Kildare any attacking rhythm. The hosts' closest moment came when the in-form Daryl Ntumba rose highest to meet a perfectly delivered cross, only to see his powerful header crash agonisingly against the crossbar.Kildare slowly found occasional passages of play before the interval, but they were largely grateful to head into the locker rooms level at 0-0 due to the woodwork and two exceptional saves from McDonnell.

Moments later, Downes showcased incredible desire to chase down a ball in the box he had no right to win, drawing a foul just inside the penalty area. Dylan Connolly stepped up to the spot and coolly dispatched the penalty, making it 2-0.Old Fort pushed hard to rediscover their first-half attacking levels, but the visitors defended with immense discipline. Kildare continued to threaten, forcing Old Fort keeper Bland into an outstanding, acrobatic save to deny Evan Flynn.The visitors officially put the tie to bed with a moment of pure magic. Showing immense confidence, defender Adam O’Keeffe darted into open space, collected a precise pass from Jack Downes, and unleashed an audacious, breathtaking chip that sailed into the net to cap off a polished 3-0 victory.


Old Fort Celtic can take massive encouragement from a performance that was much closer than the final scoreline suggests. Tyler DempseyByron McGuirkBrown, and Bermeo all turned in highly impressive shifts alongside the dangerous duo of Daryl Ntumba and Aaron Rafter. However, the home side's standout performer was Eoin Carroll, who thoroughly deserved the Old Fort Man of the Match honor for his immense, rock-solid display at the back.For the victorious visitors, Dean Hill was exceptional in the backline, while Adam Downes was a towering presence in the middle third of the pitch.However, the ultimate honors belonged to Kildare’s explosive attacking catalyst. Jack Downes put on an absolute masterclass of a second-half performance. Downes single-handedly transformed the cup tie—scoring the crucial opening goal through pure work rate, winning the high-pressure penalty for the second, and providing a sublime assist for O'Keeffe's audacious third. 

For his relentless work ethic and direct involvement in all three goals, Downes was the unanimous choice for the Man of the Match.










Arlington AFC 2-1 Sallins Celtic FC


Senior Division side Arlington AFC narrowly avoided a potential cup upset, leaning on a brilliant individual brace from Sudaysi Adour to edge past Division 2 underdogs Sallins Celtic FC 2-1. 

In a fiercely contested knockout match, the lower-division visitors matched their top-tier opponents stride for stride, forcing Arlington to dig deep to seal their place in the second round.


The match began with Sallins Celtic displaying tremendous hunger, aggressively hunting down every second ball and refusing to grant Arlington any comfort on the leather. The opening exchanges were highly tactical as both groups adjusted to the cup intensity, though the visitors threatened first when Brian Elliott picked out Dylan O’Donnell, whose goalbound header was expertly turned away by Arlington custodian Luke McEvoy.Arlington standardly found an attacking outlet through the high-pressing Thobela Nazo. Nazo drilled a 20-yard warning shot just wide, before orchestrating a fine chance from an Adam Maher corner, where Alex Dunne headed across the back post for Jason Conlon to nod inches over.


The Senior side's quality standardly cracked the deadlock in the 27th minute. Nazo fired a sharp pass into the feet of Sudaysi Adour on the edge of the final third. Adour showcased elite footwork, turning his defender in a phone booth before unleashing a ferocious 20-yard strike that rippled the back of the net to make it 1-0.Sallins responded with long-range efforts from Brian Lawler, but Arlington nearly doubled their advantage just before the interval. Ben McEvoy cut inside from the edge of the area and launched a curling effort that required a spectacular, full-stretch save to the left from Sallins keeper Aaron Ritchie, leaving the hosts with a fragile one-goal cushion at the break.

For the victorious Senior side, Ben McEvoy and Michael Lutrell provided immense attacking width, while Pheilim O’Kane turned in an industrial, rock-solid shift in the defensive phases to see out the result alongside the two-goal hero Sudaysi Adour.For a brave Sallins Celtic side that can take massive encouragement from pushing a top-flight team to the absolute limit, Brian Lawler and Evan Aspinall were excellent in transition, while Luke Doneganand goalscorer Dylan O’Donnell carried immense threat.However, despite finishing on the losing side, the official match honors belonged to the visitors' midfield engine. Adam Kenny turned in an absolute masterclass of a performance for Sallins Celtic. Kenny was completely omnipresent all afternoon—breaking up Arlington counter-attacks with perfectly timed tackles, winning every crucial second ball, and setting the aggressive tempo that allowed his side to dominate large stretches of the second half. For his extraordinary work rate and tactical intelligence against top-tier opposition, Kenny was deservingly named the Man of the Match.



Bush Celtic FC 2-0 Rathangan FC



Bush Celtic FC secured their passage into the second round of the Lumsden League Cup with a clinical 2-0 victory over Rathangan FC. In a tightly contested cup tie, the hosts relied on defensive solidity and a devastating first-half masterclass from forward Aaron Kennedy to claim a well-earned clean sheet and eliminate their league rivals.

Aaron Kennedy timed his diagonal run to perfection, latching onto the ball and slotting a clinical finish past the rushing goalkeeper to hand the hosts a 1-0 lead.Stung by the opener, Rathangan rallied and enjoyed a sustained spell of possession, asking questions of the Bush Celtic backline with a succession of dangerous aerial crosses. 


However, the hosts' rearguard stood entirely resolute, absorbing the pressure before launching a lethal counter-attack to double their cushion in the 38th minute. Dean King picked up a loose ball in the midfield and delivered a brilliant, incisive pass into the path of Aaron Kennedy, who kept his cool to score an almost carbon-copy finish, sending Bush Celtic into the interval with a comfortable 2-0 cushion.Rathangan emerged for the second period with a noticeable increase in attacking urgency, pushing extra bodies forward and throwing caution to the wind in a desperate bid to find a lifeline. 

They threw a high press at the hosts and won a series of deep set-pieces, keeping the Bush Celtic defensive line under heavy strain.
