KDFL Under 20 Division 1
BBC United FC 0 Kilcullen AFC 5
Clinical Kilcullen Dominate Top-of-the-Table Clash
In a high-stakes encounter at Moyvalley, league leaders Kilcullen AFC showcased why
they occupy the top spot in the U20 Division 1. Despite being an away fixture against
second-place BBC United, Kilcullen delivered a masterclass in clinical finishing to extend
their lead at the summit to seven points.
The game began with high intensity as both sides looked to gain the upper hand. BBC
United started the brighter of the two and were inches away from a lead in the 5th minute,
only for Kilcullen’s Ben Scanlon to produce a goal-saving "super save" that set the tone
for the visitors' resilience. Kilcullen’s breakthrough came in the 17th minute. Kian
McNally delivered a perfectly weighted deadball that found Josh Kelly, who glanced a
header over the BBC keeper to make it 1-0. BBC organized their defense well for the
remainder of the half, but their resolve was broken again in the 43rd minute. Ryan Dunne
played the pacey Kelly through one-on-one; the striker made no mistake, doubling the
lead just before the whistle.
The second half saw Kilcullen’s midfield duo of Tom Moloney and Adam Barry take
complete control of the engine room. Their dominance allowed the visitors to play with
freedom: 52nd Minute: Moloney sliced open the BBC defence with a through ball to Ryan
Brew, who finished clinically to make it 3-0. The Hat-trick: After a brief mental battle with
the BBC keeper on a missed chance, Kelly asserted his dominance in the 75th minute,
rising highest to power home a header from a Moloney corner. The Final Blow: In the 85th
minute, Kelly capped an outstanding performance by volleying a Fionn Coyle cross into
the net from outside the box for his fourth of the day. While BBC had late chances to pull
one back, the Kilcullen back four—marshalled expertly by Jay Doyle and Kian
McNally—remained impassable to secure the clean sheet.
Best for the winners in an all round clinical performance for Kilcullen were Tom
Moloney: The creative engine, providing the vision and assists that dismantled the BBC
defence. Kian McNally: Crucial at both ends, providing the assist for the opener and a
rock-solid defensive performance. Adam Barry: Dominated the midfield battle alongside
Moloney.
BBC United were best served by Adam Walsh & Robert Borowiec: The standout
performers for the hosts, working tirelessly despite the difficult scoreline. The
Goalkeeper: Kept the scoreline from escalating further with several high-quality saves in
the first half.
Josh Kelly (Kilcullen) Man of The Match:
A masterclass in striking, netting four goals including two headers and a stunning volley.
An undeniable choice for the award, Kelly’s movement and finishing were on another
level today. Scoring four goals in a single fixture is a rare feat, and his chemistry with the
Kilcullen midfield made him a constant threat throughout the 90 minutes.

Leinster Football Association Women’s Shield (Round 1)
Mullingar Athletic FC 2 Monasterevin AFC 3
Dramatic Comeback Sends Monasterevin AFC into Last 16
Monasterevin AFC displayed incredible grit and clinical finishing last night to overcome a
formidable Mullingar Athletic side on their brand-new 4G surface.
Despite being under pressure for long spells, the "Girls in Green" secured a 3-2 victory to
advance to the final 16 of the Leinster Junior Shield.
The match began with Mullingar Athletic looking sharp, utilizing their home advantage to
play a fluid style of football. Monasterevin found themselves on the back foot early on,
but a disciplined defensive unit of Bernie Hyland, Eimear Devoy, Ciara Morrissey, and
Bryana Abbey held firm. When the line was breached, goalkeeper Alex Kinsella Ogilsby
was alert, charging off her line to sweep up danger.
Mullingar eventually broke the deadlock at the 30-minute mark with a clinical free kick
from just outside the area. While the home side threatened to double their lead,
Monasterevin remained dangerous on the counter-attack through the pace of Roisin
Keogh and Brianne Kaye.
The persistence paid off just before the break. Keogh powered down the left wing and
unleashed a shot that rattled the near post; Kaye was the quickest to react, poaching the
rebound at the back post to level the scores at 1-1 heading into the interval.
The second half started in frustrating fashion for the visitors, as Mullingar regained the
lead only three minutes in via a fortuitous deflection. Despite having not played a
competitive fixture since November as Monasterevin are currently in a close season, their
fitness and resolve were evident. Nicole Moran, Abby Kemmy, and Rebecca Broughan
worked tirelessly in the engine room alongside Eimear Devoy, who moved into a midfield
role to shore up the center. The turning point came midway through the half as
Monasterevin enjoyed their best spell of possession. The tactical shift of moving Keogh
up front alongside Amy Heffernan paid dividends: The Equalizer came when Nicole
Moran threaded a superb through-ball to Keogh, who outpaced two defenders to slot
home for 2-2.
The Winner then came Fifteen minutes later, Keogh turned provider, slipping a pass to
Abby Kemmy who broke the defensive line and finished emphatically to make it 3-2.
Tactical Resilience. The final ten minutes—including a tense five minutes of injury
time—saw Mullingar throw everything forward. However, the experience of the KDFL side
shone through.
The leadership of Bernie Hyland and Mairead Scully at the back proved impenetrable,
ensuring Monasterevin saw out the win. It was a massive performance from the 12-player
squad, characterized by the heroics of Alex Kinsella Ogilsby in goal and a clinical edge in
the final third. Monasterevin AFC now look forward to the draw for the last 16.
Player of the Match Contenders:
Alex Kinsella Ogilsby: Vital saves at 1-0 and 2-1 kept the team in the hunt.
