KDFL Under 20 Division

Rathangan AFC 4 Clane United FC 4

A game of two halves as Clane & Rathangan share the spoils, 4-4 in a top of the table clash.

Clane United and Rathangan both came into this game, knowing a win would cement their chances of taking the U20 premier league title. Clane United got off to a flier and had several good chances which they failed to convert in the first ten minutes. One minute later a long ball from Rathangan’s keeper was not dealt with and Callum Donnelly opened the scoring. Amazingly just one minute later another defensive error from Clane allowed Rathangan to double their lead. A good save from Callum Mooney, fell for Oisin Dempsey to tap in from close range.

Clane had the majority of the ball throughout the game, but again confusion in the Clane back line gifted Rathangan with another goal in on the half hour mark. This time Oisin Crowley scored which saw Rathangan going in at the break three goals to the good.

Clane started the second half with more purpose and after just sixty seconds, Andrew Hyland scored a superb solo twenty five yard effort, which gave the Rathangan keeper no chance. Clane reduced the deficit to one when Scott Britton scored another long-range effort on fifty three minutes.

Four minutes later, Rathangan restored their two goal advantage, when a break down the left worked its way to Cian Lynch who stroked the ball into an open net. Clane had to all to do now to rescue something from this game.

Clane made three changes before the hour mark and one of the substitutes Josh Gannon immediate scored with a thirty five yard shot after the restart to make it 4-3 after on fifty seven minutes. Clane continued to push, and an equalizer came from James Ralph on the seventy ninth minute.

As both teams tired, chances came at both ends for a winner, but alas the scoring spree finished at 4-4 in an enthralling contest between both sides vying for League honours.
