LFA Junior Cup second round tie

Kilcullen AFC 2 Vale Wanderers 0

Kilcullen came out best in this tight against Carlow League side Vale Wanderers played in glorious autumnal sunshine on Saturday afternoon in Kilcullen

Rob Lee opened the scoring on seven minutes from a Daragh Kelly corner when he managed to get his foot on a loose ball in the box and find the back of the net.

Vale had two good chances to draw level after getting behind the Kilcullen rear guard but Steven Doyle in goal was able to repel both efforts.

The home side had the better of the exchanges for the rest of the half but despite some good efforts from Dylan Aulsbury and Eamon Doyle the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

The second half was a bit more lively then the first with McGinley, Lee and Aulsberry all coming close for the home side and Vale looking dangerous especially from set pieces but neither side could get the vital second goal.

Thankfully that changed with 15 minutes to go when Eamon Doyle fed the ball to Daragh Kelly who made a little space to shoot with some trickery down the left, his shot however hit the post but Alex McMahon was alert at the back post to tap home. 2-0

Kilcullen managed the game well from that point with Dignam, Durney and Scanlon composed at the back and McGinley controlling matters in midfield. Vale Wanderers worked hard until the final whistle and created a few half chances for a goal that their efforts deserved but the defensive efforts of the home team won the day.

Best for Kilcullen were Colin Scanlon, Alex McMahon and man of the match Mark McGinley
